I was born and raised in sunny San Diego where I wished for rain. In every picture taken of me as a child, I'm looking down ponderously, thinking, “I'm a physical being again. Darn.” In the car I would too often hear the phrase, “Hey, ya still back there?”
My family used to camp on the beach in Mexico and I would draw figures in the sand and try to control the clouds. If the doorbell rang at my home, I would run and hide in the closet.
